Air conditioning season is in full swing here in Florida right now, and that means you spend very little time in spaces that don’t have the cooling power of an AC system. Although air conditioning makes living in Florida this time of year bearable, your cooling bill is probably higher than it’s been all year. To cut back on this cost and use your system more efficiently, try out some of these tips:

  • Use a programmable thermostat—If you leave for work all day, you don’t need your home to be as cool as if you were staying in. Set your programmable thermostat to keep your home warmer during periods when you won’t be there.

  • Close your blinds—The constant infiltration of sunlight into your home can make things feel much warmer than they actually are. Try to keep your blinds closed throughout most of the day, especially in rooms that receive direct sunlight.
  • Seal your doors—Has the sealant around your doors started to crack? Replace this important part of your doors to keep cool air from escaping your home.
  • Install ceiling fans—Everything feels much cooler when you’re sitting underneath the breeze of a ceiling fan. Install fans in every room of your home, and you can increase the temperature on your thermostat without sacrificing your comfort.
