Duct CleaningWith so much focus these days being on health, we can only wonder how safe our working environments are. Researchers from NIOSH (National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health) recently concluded a 3-year study on 160 buildings that had issues with the quality of indoor air.

The most common problems that affect the indoor environment adversely were found to be dirty heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) components, lack of maintenance, no IAQ (indoor air quality) plan, lack of regular duct cleaning, and HVAC systems in a state of disrepair.

The researchers found that dirty filters and dirt on the outside air (OSA) intake doubled the risk of asthma in building occupants. Overlooking duct cleaning increased the likelihood of adverse symptoms, such as itchy eyes, sneezing and runny nose. With these health issues prevalent in the workplace, we can only wonder how much this affects the health of tenants and office workers, their efficiency and the overall productivity of a company.

There is something that can be done. Having HVAC systems inspected, duct cleaning performed, and general maintenance at scheduled intervals is the best way to combat tenant and employee complaints, as well as decreased productivity caused by an increase in sick days.
